TORC Road Safety Event in Shannon

RSA Event in Shannon

A huge thank you to all the residents of Shannon who came out yesterday it was a fantastic community event!

A special word of thanks to Diane from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) who delivered a brilliant and very informative talk to the young children about road safety in the estate. The kids learned so much in a fun and engaging way, and were delighted to receive bicycle lights and some lovely high-vis goodies to help keep them safe.

Thank you as well to Shannon Ices for keeping all the adults warm with the lovely hot coffee.

It is an annual awards programme run by the RSA that recognises individuals, schools, community groups and organisations across Ireland who are making a real difference in road safety through education, awareness and local initiatives. The awards celebrate those working to reduce road deaths and serious injuries, with winners honoured at a ceremony each December in Croke Park.

Alone- A Little Offering Never Ends

TORC have worked alongside ALONE (An acronym for “A Little Offering Never Ends”) to learn more about the wide range of supports they provide and to help share this important information with our members.

ALONE is a national organisation dedicated to supporting older people to age at home with dignity, independence, and connection. Their services include practical supports, advice, befriending services, and assistance in times of crisis, ensuring that no older person feels alone or without help.

We are pleased to inform you that TORC has circulated a letter to all members aged over 60, highlighting and recommending the valuable services offered by ALONE.

Upcoming Events:

TORC is launching a Marchathon Challenge in March, across our 8 housing schemes to encourage residents to get moving, connect, and have fun together.

Residents can take part individually, as a group, or both, with everyone’s steps contributing to their scheme’s weekly total. Each scheme will nominate a scheme leader who will collect step screenshots from participants, total the steps, and submit the weekly figure to Roisin (TORC Resident Engagement Co-Ordinator). The steps will be audited each week to ensure compliance. Please inform us if your scheme would like to get involved and who is going to be the scheme leader.

At the end of the month, the scheme with the highest total number of steps will be crowned the winner.

The winning scheme will receive €1,000 to host a community event of their choice. The funding can be used to hire entertainment or activities for the day such as a family fun day, live entertainment with an ice-cream truck or we are open to hearing other suggestions you may have for your community!

This challenge is all about getting communities active, encouraging social connection, and bringing neighbours together in a fun and positive way.

So lace up those runners, grab a friend, and let’s get moving!
